Kilvington Grammar School launches 2019 PEP Talks

As part of our commitment to supporting our school community this term, we are launching a series of PEP (Parent Education Program) Talks, commencing on Monday 20 May.

These family information evenings will focus on student wellbeing and we are incredibly fortunate to secure some outstanding speakers, all experts and renowned in their fields. Each of them will speak on a range of critical issues impacting our children today.

PEP TALK 1

Strength-based Parenting

Professor Lea Waters (Ph.D) is a psychologist, researcher and consultant specialising in positive psychology and positive education. She is also the author of the highly acclaimed book ‘The Strength Switch‘.

During her talk, Professor Waters will help you unlock your child’s potential by giving you the tools to focus on their strengths rather than trying to correct their weaknesses, helping them build resilience, confidence and optimism, enabling them to flourish in today’s fast-paced world.

PEP TALK 2

TUESDAY 20 AUGUST  7.00PM FOR 7.30PM

Positively Impacting Learning Outcomes and Wellbeing through Nutrition, Sleep and Exercise

Michele Chevalley Hedge is a wellbeing expert, nutritional medicine practitioner and international speaker.

She has written ‘Beating Sugar Addiction for Dummies’ as well as other best-selling health books.

Michele will share how nutrition, sleep and exercise are essential for our children’s mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. She will present non extreme approaches to eating well, exercise and proper sleep and how they can improve cognitive function, self-confidence and the immune system.

Warrick Pearson is a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Lead Clinician and Director of My Physio.

Providing services to the Australian Sailing team, Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and the St Kilda Football Club’s Next Gen Academy, Warrick will share the most recent research into how to achieve optimal learning and wellbeing through sport and exercise.

Caring for Kids in an Online World

Susan McLean is Australia’s foremost expert in the area of cyber safety and was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years. She was the first Victorian Police Officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people.

Widely known as the ‘cyber cop’, Susan will deliver an informative and entertaining session for families that will cover the positive benefits of technology, as well as what parents need to be aware of.
