Why Kilvington

Message from our Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Kilvington Grammar School.

Kilvington is an independent Melbourne-based Christian school of the Baptist tradition. We are open to families of all faiths or no faith. We offer a friendly atmosphere, a strong sense of community and a rich history, delivering comprehensive education from the Early Learning Centre to VCE.

Situated on one campus in the Melbourne suburb of Ormond, our School has been closely linked to the local community since it was founded in 1923. Thousands of students have completed their education at Kilvington, becoming part of a vibrant Alumni network in Australia and overseas.

By learning within a rich and diverse coeducational environment, girls and boys gain broader opportunities to achieve academically and to experience situations they will encounter in the real world, supporting Kilvington’s goal of providing a comprehensive education within a safe and happy learning environment. We are focused on the mind and heart, and believe in promoting the intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual development of each student.

A Kilvington education is based on four key pillars – Academic Excellence, Character, Community &
Care. These pillars are interdependent to help our students become thinking, strong, caring and respectful people who once leaving school, will positively engage with and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Our mission is to inspire students to strive for academic excellence, and to nurture their aspirations in a caring, family-oriented community to become people of depth, strength, integrity and character.

Our vision is to be a school of excellence offering a holistic education to girls and boys, enabling them to excel individually and as part of a community.

TESTIMONIALS

Many of my secondary school teachers were strong role models and mentors as I navigated my teenage years, so it was important to us that our daughters belonged to a school culture that fostered these same strong relationships between students and staff. I believe this is the cornerstone of achieving academic excellence. We found this at Kilvington. The teaching staff went above and beyond what you … could expect, especially in Years 11 and 12. This very real sense of teamwork and belonging was evident every single day and the VCE/ NAPLAN results speak for themselves! I was a little sad this year, to know that our time as parents in the Kilvington community is officially over but I know that in terms of our daughters’ education, enrolling our daughters at Kilvington was by far the wisest decision we made.

Wonderful nurturing school that views all students as individuals and supports them in all pursuits and to be the very best they can be.

A school that is truly incredible for its ability to shape and guide it’s students to discover who they are and who they want to be! Such a comfortable environment for anyone and everyone, I truly would send my kids there later down the track if I get the chance!! Love Kilvo and the memories, thanks for everything.

The Kilvington environment is what my son needed to learn and prosper. It is small and intimate. It allowed him to find his own way. The School aims to produce people of good character, morals and virtues; to develop the mind and the heart. It does this by encouraging self-reflection, hard work and honesty. Guest speakers and excursions at the School support this focus and students meet some amazing people and enjoy some great experiences. I’ve always been impressed by the various Olympians, life coaches, leaders and authors who regularly visit the School to speak and uplift. Kilvington students are also taught some wonderful tools and philosophies. The Growth Mindset, in particular, helps students to believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – that brains and talent are just the starting point. There is genuine care given by the teachers, in an environment that challenges and inspires.
