Sport is an integral part of Kilvington’s curriculum. We are passionate in our belief that physical wellbeing yields numerous benefits for our students, including enhancing their mental, social and emotional wellbeing, as well as academic performance.
Sports offered include athletics, swimming, cross-country, volleyball, cricket, football, softball, netball, basketball, tennis and soccer. We have recruited outstanding coaches and mentors to help guide and support our students.
Kilvington also has an exciting and challenging camping and outdoor education program, involving students from Year 3 onwards.
Students from Prep to Year 12 participate in House Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals each year.
Kilvington is a member of EISM (Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne) and SSV (School Sports Victoria) participating in the Balaclava District.
Years 5 and 6 students participate in weekly sport every Friday and some of these weeks involve weekly competitions against other schools within our Balaclava district.
Years 7 – 12 students participate in weekly interschool sport. For Year 12 students sport is optional, but we find that a number of students choose to participate.
Sport Training Program
To support Kilvington’s expanding Sport program, an after-school training program has been implemented. All Year 5 – Year 11 students are expected to participate in one hour of training of their sport with their team each week.
Senior Training (Y10 – Y12) – Monday
EISM Intermediate Training (Y8 & Y9) – Tuesday
EISM Junior Training (Y7) – Thursday
Balaclava Sport Training (Y5 & Y6) – Wednesday
Sports Club (Y2 – Y6) – Wednesday
Students can also participate in the School’s running club – the Kelpies – which runs every Tuesday morning from 7.30am from the School ‘rain, hail or shine’.
Kilvington’s sporting facilities include tennis, netball and basketball courts, with access to sporting fields and ovals just a short walk away. In 2017 work began on a new Sports Centre which will be completed in early 2019.
