Talent Development and Enrichment

A key priority of Kilvington is to foster an inspired learning culture that maximises the potential of every student. We are dedicated to providing our students with avenues to delve into their interests and cultivate advanced abilities, equipping them to excel in a constantly evolving world.

The Talent Development and Enrichment Program provides students with the opportunities to explore their passions, be curious, and develop advanced skills to thrive in a constantly evolving world.

A Program for Student Growth

Our Talent Development and Enrichment Program employs a multi-tiered approach to identify suitable learning programs for our high-ability students. We begin with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all students in the general education classroom. Based on the level of differentiation required, students are identified and placed in the appropriate tier.

We offer differentiated classroom programs at each level and within each subject domain. We tailor instruction to meet individual student needs by adjusting content, process, outcomes or the learning environment. Ongoing assessment and flexible grouping methods enhance the effectiveness of this instructional approach.

Differentiation, enrichment and acceleration have all been part of our story at Kilvington, as have exceptional levels of care, communication and collaboration. Elijah is engaged, challenged and thriving. Rather than try to squeeze a square peg into a round hole, Kilvington has given him wings to soar to his potential and beyond. The staff ‘get him’. The community inspires him. As a family, we are heard, understood and accepted.

The Student Enrichment and Extension at Kilvington or 'SEEK' Program, enables our highly-able students in one or more domains to receive enrichment or extension beyond the content covered in the mainstream classroom in both the primary and secondary areas of the School. These sessions are designed to offer programs that are broad and rich in content and aim to extend and enrich a student’s critical and creative thinking, develop their sense of curiosity, take measured risks with their learning, and engage with like-minded peers.

Students involved in the SEEK Program have the opportunity to extend their abilities through small group enrichment classes, accelerated courses, and bespoke programs or external academic competitions.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the EDGE Program is how it caters to Aarav’s specific interests and learning style. The personalised approach of the program has truly been a game-changer for him. The program also offers social and emotional support, which has boosted his confidence and allowed him to flourish both inside and outside the classroom. We couldn’t be more grateful.

The Enhanced and Differentiated Gifted Education or 'EDGE' Program is a customised individual initiative for our gifted students, catering not only to those who excel academically, but also to those who perform at an elite level in sport, or demonstrate exceptional talent in the performing or visual arts.

EDGE students receive an Individual Program Planner (IPP), which outlines the opportunities and adjustments made to their academic program to support and enhance their specific talents.

Being a part of the EDGE program has allowed me to achieve more, both in the pool and the classroom. Previously, I struggled to juggle the demands of schoolwork and swimming training while maintaining high standards in both. With the help and support of the program and my teachers, I can now balance both and also have time to socialise.
— Mary | Year 8

Our students have opportunities to become advocates of their own learning journey, fostering a sense of agency and ownership over their educational and personal experiences.

This intrinsic motivation fuels their desire to explore, discover and pursue knowledge and skills both inside and outside the classroom, helping them become lifelong learners and active contributors to society.

I’ve been in the EDGE Program for two years and have found it incredibly helpful in pursuing my many varied passions. The program has supported me in seeking external opportunities for growth, particularly in music. Within the School, I’ve been granted unique experiences to support my musical interests, of which have significantly improved my trumpet-playing skills.
