Writer's Festival

Learning to write well and in the right style is a very important skill for students. Practicing writing often helps children express themselves, discover their unique voice, and learn how to think about and improve their ideas. Our goal is to encourage and support students to put their thoughts into words and to feel confident taking chances with their writing. This helps them grow, not only in school but throughout their lives.

Get it down. Take chances. It may be bad, but it's the only way you can do anything really good.
— William Faulkner

Every year we hold the Kilvington Writers Festival, a week-long program that provides the opportunity for our community to express itself, to celebrate the gift and power of writing and to hear from leading authors, playwriters, poets and activists.

We are committed to fostering students to become responsible global citizens capable of communicating, collaborating and empathising with their peers, and as a part of our Global Connections program, write to others worldwide.

Competitions

We encourage our students to participate in a variety of competitions, including the ICAS English Competition, Write Across Australia, Somerset Celebration of Literature, and the Royal Commonwealth Society Essay Competition. Taking part in these competitions not only challenges students to improve their writing skills but also helps with their personal growth by boosting their confidence, fostering creativity, and developing critical thinking. Engaging in such experiences can play a key role in a child’s overall development, encouraging them to set goals and take pride in their achievements.
